At NextSim21, ViewApp, the developers of TramSim, announced "TramSim Munich", which will be released later last year. It will be a new game, which means that you don't need TramSim Vienna to play TramSim Munich. To avoid paying the code base twice, all owners of TramSim Vienna will get a discount on the game from Munich! But first, let's talk about the content of the new simulator:
A total of three lines from Munich will be implemented:
- Line 23, Münchner Freiheit - Schwabing Nord, journey time is approx. 10 minutes
- Line 27, Sendlinger Tor - Petuelring, journey time is approx. 20 minutes
- Line 28, Sendlinger Tor - Scheidplatz, journey time is approx. 17 minutes
Each line has its own challenges. Lines 27 and 28 run for the most part through the middle of Munich. From Sendlinger Tor, they travel via Karlsplatz (Stachus) to Kurfürstenplatz. This is where the 27 and 28 split up. The 27 runs via five stops to the Petuelring underground station, while the 28 runs via only two stops to Scheidplatz. In addition, line 27 also runs at night!
The 23 has no overlaps with the other two lines - nevertheless it is highly interesting! From Münchner Freiheit, the line goes to Schwabing Nord. What is special here is the very modern route (it opened in 2009) and the high percentage of mobility-impaired people (heavily simplified: wheelchair users). Even those will find their way into the game with TramSim Munich. In addition, a connecting piece between line 23 and line 28 is included to enable line changes.
But what is the point of all this if you don't have an adequate tram? ViewApp has a solution for that too - namely the R2.2b. This vehicle is a derivative of the very well-known GT6N, which is widely used throughout Germany. The key data are as follows: 3-section, 70 units delivered to Munich (in the years 1994 - 1997), 26.8m in length and 30.7 tonnes unladen weight. The vehicle still dominates the Munich cityscape and, in our opinion, simply belongs to Munich - like the E2 to Vienna.
Moreover, all vehicles from Vienna can also be driven in Munich!
Attentive watchers would of course add that ViewApp has already recreated Munich in LOTUS. Well, this is true, but Oriolus (developer of LOTUS) and ViewApp had a bit of a disagreement, which is why the development of the LOTUS add-on Munich was cancelled. Nevertheless, there is good news for all owners of that add-on: You get a 75% discount on TramSim Munich!
TramSim Munich is supposed to be released this year. Even though we couldn't find the price anywhere, we assume that it will be around 35€, as TramSim Vienna cost the same. However, this is pure speculation.

How do you like TramSim Munich? Are you looking forward to the release? Do you already have TramSim Vienna?
