FlyJSim should be a familiar name to people who have actually been involved in the flight simulation scene. They have implemented both the legendary 737-200 and the ingenious 727 in various versions for X-Plane 11 and in a quality that we only know from a few other developers. They also sell the Q400, which, however, is now getting on in age. The model, the textures, the system depth simply don't meet today's standards of FJS - and that's why they decided some time ago for a new edition, which was named Q4XP. This is the one that seems to be slowly approaching "completion" and that is why we are taking a look at this aircraft today!
Which aircraft are we talking about? It is the De Havilland DHC-8-400 or "Dash 8Q-400" or simply "Q400". This is a small, twin-engine, turboprop aircraft that can carry up to 90 passengers on shorter routes and had its maiden flight in 1998. In total, more than 500 have been sold and are now in service with about 60 airlines in about 40 countries.
And this plane, which is very popular in real life, is now to finding its way into X-Plane 11 in a revised version. For this purpose, the FJS team has rebuilt the entire aircraft, reworked everything down to the smallest detail and brought it up to the latest standards. In order to achieve this new standard of quality, every screw, every tiny angle, was recreated in detail, 4k textures with PBR were used, every button, every switch, every dial was made as real as possible and hundreds of custom animations were created.
Lately, FlyJSim has also been releasing more and more images of the aircraft and - related to that - hints of a timely release. On September 3rd, for example, under one image was written "It's spooky how much we enjoy testing this aircraft as we near release. Soon, I promise!". And then on 5 September, a teaser trailer followed on YouTube and Facebook respectively, saying that it would be ready this autumn!
How do you like the plane? Are you looking forward to a release and have you already had experience with their current Dash 8?
