Euro Truck Simulator 2 was released back in 2012. More than a decade later, the game is still regularly expanded, receiving new countries, new trucks, revamped map regions and, by now, even fundamentally new gameplay systems. Nevertheless, the community has been asking the same question again and again for years: When is Euro Truck Simulator 3 actually coming? There is currently no officially announced ETS3—and looking at how much SCS Software continues to invest directly in Euro Truck Simulator 2, there is currently little to suggest that a complete successor is imminent. But does ETS2 even need a third installment yet?

You can spend hundreds of hours in Euro Truck Simulator 2 and still drive past entire roads, viewpoints and even two real-life truck test tracks. Some of these areas do not appear on the world map at all at first and are consistently ignored by the sat-nav. Anyone who exclusively follows their regular jobs and the suggested route can therefore drive past them for years. How many of these hidden places in ETS2 have you discovered yourself?

Those who spend a lot of time in the cockpit should see the difference straight away: with Update 1.62, the Iveco S-Way in Euro Truck Simulator 2 is getting the next major graphics overhaul for its interior. Lighting, reflections and different materials in particular are changing—but what will actually look different afterward?

With the ETS2 Update 1.62, garages in Euro Truck Simulator 2 are once again in the spotlight. SCS Software is replacing the old buildings on the base map and in the map DLCs with more modern models, while revising both interiors and outdoor areas. Behind the new façade, however, an old decision remains that can quickly tie up €180,000 when building your own trucking company: Do you expand your small starter garage or buy a second location for the same amount? Anyone who wants to build their ETS2 trucking company as efficiently as possible and save money in ETS2 should therefore answer a simple question first: Why pay €180,000 for two additional parking spaces when the same amount creates three spaces at a new location?

New bus stations, rebuilt roads, adapted border crossings and even expansions of existing cities: For the upcoming Coaches DLC, SCS Software is currently changing large parts of the Euro Truck Simulator 2 map. However, surprisingly, you do not have to buy the Coaches DLC for this. SCS has explicitly confirmed that changes to the base map and to already existing map DLCs will be available to all players who own the respective map content. So you get the new infrastructure – only the actual bus gameplay remains part of the paid Coaches DLC. What exactly do you get for free without the Coaches DLC, and what will you still need the expansion for?

Almost 14 years after the release of Euro Truck Simulator 2, one of the game's best-known old standard buildings is disappearing. With the upcoming ETS2 Update 1.62, SCS Software is replacing the existing garage models – not just in one reworked country, but across the entire base map and in every map DLC. Owners of their own coach will gain access to Contract Jobs with scheduled passenger services. Tourist Trips, on the other hand, take us to sights with a tour group and then back again. On October 7, 2026, the developers presented another type of job: In the new sightseeing tours, we take tour groups from the bus station to attractions, viewpoints and special excursion destinations—and then back again. But how do these sightseeing jobs differ from the express and contract jobs already announced?

You deliver a load, check your trip earnings and plan what needs to be paid next: fuel, repairs or the expansion of your own yard. The free companion app Dispolotse combines your journeys in Euro Truck Simulator 2 with an additional economy featuring a bank account, dealer and workshop. You can start alone and later build a larger business. But how do jobs get into the game—and what do you need for your first trip?

The bed is already there, the wardrobe is currently being delivered – but there is not enough room for the new sofa. With Dispolotse, such decisions become part of your virtual truck driver's everyday life. The free companion app adds a home to Euro Truck Simulator 2 that you rent, buy and furnish with your in-game money. You start in a shared-flat room and can later move up to a house with a garden. Does that make the first home of your own the next major savings goal after your own truck?

Anyone driving a DAF in Euro Truck Simulator 2 can now even make a rather fitting detour to the brand’s home. Since the Benelux rework released in May, Eindhoven has been part of the ETS2 map as a completely new city, and SCS Software has also recreated the manufacturer’s well-known factory grounds there together with DAF. This is not simply some building by the roadside, as the site was deliberately integrated as part of the new freight world. How close does Euro Truck Simulator 2 come to DAF’s real home?

Some loads in Euro Truck Simulator 2 look significantly heavier than they actually feel when driving. That is exactly where Realistic Cargo Weight 1.5x comes in: The mod generally increases the original cargo weights by 50 percent, without turning them all into extreme transports. A light load therefore remains comparatively light, while already heavy cargo becomes correspondingly heavier. How does everyday ETS2 driving change when almost every load suddenly weighs 1.5 times as much?

Six, eight or even ten axles behind your own truck: That is exactly what the Special Multi-Axle Trailers – Ownable mod makes possible in Euro Truck Simulator 2. It takes several large special transport trailers that are already part of the game and makes them available for your own fleet through the regular trailer purchase menu for the first time. The Lowbed 7+3 with a total of ten axles is particularly striking. However, one restriction is very important: The mod does not automatically unlock the normal escorted Special Transport jobs for owned trailers. So what can you actually do with these enormous semitrailers?

A modern 700-hp truck pulls many loads through Euro Truck Simulator 2 relatively effortlessly on the highway. Even with heavy transport, it can therefore sometimes feel as though the engine, gearbox and brakes are not really having to work. DBM Heavy Overload addresses exactly that – and has even been made significantly more extreme since our initial research: Instead of a maximum of 200 tons, the current version now increases certain loads to up to 400 tons. As a result, inclines, gear selection and braking distances suddenly become a completely different matter. What happens in ETS2 when several hundred tons are actually hanging behind the tractor unit?

In Euro Truck Simulator 2, refueling is normally a fairly compact process: stop, start refueling, done. With TM Real Walk, this now goes considerably further. The plugin adds a complete refueling sequence on foot: you get out, walk to the pump, use a DKV card, enter data at the terminal, take the nozzle, refuel the truck and even collect a printed receipt at the end.
