Train Sim World 7: Freight traffic is set to play a major role on the Rhein-Niers-Bahn!
The Rhein-Niers-Bahn is one of the upcoming German routes for Train Sim World 7 and is being developed by third-party developer FolezzWorld. The team has been working on the connection for some time already and has repeatedly provided new insights into the current state of development in several roadmap updates.
One point that FolezzWorld itself repeatedly emphasizes is particularly noticeable: Freight traffic is set to play a central role.
The route is therefore not intended merely as a traditional connection for regional trains. Instead, industrial areas and freight facilities are also set to account for a significantly larger share of the gameplay.
One focus is around Chempark. Such industrial areas differ considerably from normal passenger stations because they can bring together significantly more connecting tracks, shunting opportunities and specialized freight movements. FolezzWorld therefore wants to present these areas not merely as scenery, but as an important part of the route.
In addition, there are industrial branch and connecting lines, which are being specifically implemented for freight traffic. These short branches in particular could provide varied tasks later on, because trains would not simply travel from one major station to the next, but could directly serve industrial facilities.
The Hochfelder Railway Bridge has also been highlighted by the developers several times. The historic bridge is one of the route’s distinctive structures and is located in an area where the surroundings are becoming increasingly industrial.
This also gives the Rhein-Niers-Bahn a different visual character from many classic German TSW routes. Instead of mostly fields, suburbs and stations, larger cities, industrial areas, open landscapes and heavily used railway lines alternate with one another.
Another particularly interesting section is the freight bypass between Rheydt and Viersen. This exact area is explicitly mentioned as part of the planned freight traffic.
Such bypasses exist primarily so that freight trains do not necessarily have to use the same routes as all passenger traffic. In the game, this could create a distinctly different driving experience, because players would travel on parts of the network that may see little use in normal regional services.
There are also detailed freight yards and shunting areas. FolezzWorld had already explained during development that the team was increasingly working on precisely these areas.
However, this does not automatically mean that every visible connection will later be used with its own assignment. Which specific freight services, vehicles or shunting scenarios will ultimately be included has not yet been fully revealed.
This is exactly where the current state of development should be clearly distinguished from already confirmed gameplay. The strong focus on freight traffic and the areas built for it are confirmed. Which locomotives, wagons and specific timetable services will result from this still has to be fully presented by FolezzWorld.
Work has also already progressed extensively on the timetable. In an earlier development update, the team explained that the timetable was well advanced and that they were working in parallel on scenarios intended to better showcase the character of this industrially shaped route.
Since then, the Rhein-Niers-Bahn has been shown several more times, but there is still no specific release date.
The add-on is now officially part of the upcoming content for Train Sim World 7. The base game itself has been available since September 15, and the Rhein-Niers-Bahn will follow at a later date.
What is particularly interesting is that FolezzWorld has not chosen the easiest route with its first Train Sim World project. A route with major cities, dense passenger traffic, industrial connections, freight yards and separate freight lines requires considerably more than just a continuous main line between two terminal stations.
That could be the greatest appeal for players, however. Very different services could later operate on the same map: regional traffic through densely populated areas, journeys across open sections and heavy freight trains through industrial facilities.
If these areas are used accordingly in the final timetable, the Rhein-Niers-Bahn could become one of the most versatile German routes in Train Sim World.
