OMSI 2 Thüringer Wald: Since the update, AI cyclists now ride across the entire map!
The OMSI 2 Thüringer Wald add-on received another update some time ago. One of the most noticeable new features is not found in a new bus or an additional line, but in normal road traffic: AI bicycles have been implemented across the entire map!
This means that cyclists can now appear as independent road users within the game world. This is an interesting addition, especially on the smaller roads of the fictional Thüringer Wald, as buses there already frequently share comparatively narrow roads with cars and other traffic.
The distinction from the already familiar RadWanderBusis important here. The add-on has a bicycle trailer that can be used to transport bicycles. However, the new change concerns something else: The bicycles are now part of the AI traffic and can travel around the map independently of the bus.
This fits the surroundings particularly well in an intercity add-on. Thüringer Wald is strongly characterized by smaller towns, country roads, stretches of forest and tourist-oriented areas. Cyclists look much more natural there than on a purely urban map and ensure that traffic does not consist exclusively of cars and buses.
However, the update is not limited to the bicycles. The AI lists have also been expanded, including seasonal adjustments for the RadWanderBus. As a result, certain vehicles or traffic compositions may depend more heavily on the respective season.
The buildings in several locations have also been revised. The residential blocks in Lichtentanne, Bad Lemnitz and Wurzbach have been adjusted and are now intended to resemble typical WBS70 prefabricated buildings more closely. Thus, the update also addresses details that may not immediately stand out during normal driving, but contribute to the map’s credibility in the long term.
There were also changes at the railway crossing in Altenfeld. The signaling there has been revised. In addition, speed signs in Bad Lemnitz have been adjusted, along with traffic behavior at the town gate of Lichtentanne.
The included buses have also received several changes. Particularly interesting for AI traffic: AI buses should now no longer drive faster than 80 km/h. This prevents computer-controlled vehicles from reaching unrealistically high speeds on intercity sections.
Several details have also been adjusted during actual driving. These include a bug fix for the retarder lever, improved shifting behavior of the Ecomat transmission in coasting mode, and dedicated sounds for operating the cruise control via the retarder lever.
