Euro Truck Simulator 2: Inverness becomes the new gateway to the Highlands!
With Inverness, SCS Software is adding a city to the UK Rework that has so far played no real role in the current Euro Truck Simulator 2. That is precisely what makes this step particularly interesting, because this is not merely about visually refreshing an old in-game city, but about a completely new location within the overhauled British map.
gateway to the Highlands and is therefore a suitable candidate for a region that is intended to feel much more like the true north of Scotland in the game in future. The city lies at the mouth of the River Ness and combines an urban setting with water, hills and the typical landscape that many players associate with Scotland. gateway to the Highlands
Particularly eye-catching here is the Kessock Bridge. The large suspension bridge is one of Inverness's most distinctive features and is also likely to become the city's key landmark in the game. Journeys in the industrial area in particular therefore promise a much more striking backdrop than many older British cities in ETS2, which often still look rather plain today.
But SCS is not merely building a pretty skyline around a well-known bridge. Several real locations are also supposed to find their place within the city. Among those mentioned are the Inverness Justice Centre and the Caledonian Stadium. Points that are recognizable in this way can give a city in ETS2 a great deal of character, because it no longer consists only of roads and industrial areas, but feels more like a place of its own.
The surroundings along the River Ness are another addition. This alone sets Inverness apart from many other cities, as waterfront locations, bridges and open views usually make a region in the game feel more varied. This is particularly important for Scotland, because the UK Rework is not only intended to deliver more modern cities, but also needs to put the landscape more firmly in the foreground.
Of course, it will not be limited to sightseeing. Inverness is also intended to offer new work for truckers. SCS names two central economic sectors here: a local oil facility and the Port of Inverness. The port in particular could become interesting from a gameplay perspective, because it creates a different setting from classic warehouses inland. Cargo by the water, port logistics and the combination of industry and an urban location could turn Inverness into a varied delivery destination.
That is also where the broader appeal of the UK Rework lies. SCS is not overhauling Great Britain merely to make the roads look better, but to make the region as a whole feel more believable, diverse and modern. A city like Inverness fits this perfectly, because it is not simply another point on the map, but occupies a role of its own within Scotland.
This could become particularly important for the north of Great Britain. Many players currently consider the older areas of the UK map comparatively compact and, in places, lacking in distinctiveness. New cities, revamped roads and stronger landscape differences could change precisely that. Inverness is therefore more than just a new name on the map – the city represents how much atmosphere the UK Rework could bring to the north.
A release date for the UK Rework has still not been set. What is already clear, however, is that the overhaul is later supposed to appear as a free update for owners of Euro Truck Simulator 2. Until then, Inverness is above all a preview of how much Scotland could change in the future.
Especially if SCS applies this style to further locations, the north of Great Britain could become considerably more interesting than before. Inverness already shows that the UK Rework is not merely polishing old content, but wants to give the United Kingdom in ETS2 a completely new face in many places.
What do you think of Inverness so far – and which city or region in Scotland should SCS show next in the UK Rework?
