This British city was completely missing until now: Bristol is coming to Euro Truck Simulator 2!

Bristol is located in southwest England and is already a rather interesting place for ETS2 geographically. The city lies on the River Avon, not far from the Severn Estuary and therefore on an important connection towards South Wales. So when driving through the reworked Great Britain later on, you will not simply get an additional city somewhere between two motorways, but a new junction between southwest England and Wales.

SCS is roughly dividing Bristol into two areas: the actual city with its road network and the port and logistics area. The two are intended to differ clearly from each other. While you travel between residential areas, the riverfront and famous buildings in the city centre, the classic ETS2 business takes centre stage at the port again: picking up freight, heading to depots and manoeuvring between old dock facilities.

The road layout should be particularly exciting. Among other things, SCS is recreating Brunel Way, the A4, Hotwell Road, Merchants Road and the A4018 . These are not arbitrarily invented connections, but real roads that lead through very different parts of Bristol. Sometimes the route runs close to the water, sometimes through more densely built-up urban areas and elsewhere towards the port or the outskirts. This could make Bristol feel much less like the classic ETS2 principle of “motorway exit, roundabout, company”.

And then there is the landmark that many people will probably recognise even if they have never visited Bristol: the Clifton Suspension Bridge. The suspension bridge spans the Avon Gorge and has been part of the cityscape since the 19th century. It was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, whose traces can be found in several places throughout Bristol. In the UK Rework, the bridge will not simply stand somewhere as a background model, but will be visible from various roads around the River Avon.

You encounter Brunel once again shortly afterwards – this time as a ship. In the historic port lies the SS Great Britain, which was launched in Bristol in 1843 and was one of the most technically advanced ships in the world at the time. Today, it is once again located in its historic dock as a museum ship. SCS is also incorporating it into the city. Those travelling around the port are intended to be able to see the SS Great Britain together with parts of Bristol Marina.

This gives the new city an unusually strong maritime character. Bristol was shaped by its port over the course of centuries, and SCS also intends to make use of precisely that in gameplay. In the port and logistics area, three larger company locations will be created: a logistics warehouse, a vehicle transport terminal and a yacht dock in the marina. So we will not just be driving past historic ships and old dock buildings – we will actually have work to do there.

The vehicle terminal should be particularly interesting, as it also brings the port into freight traffic. The yacht area, on the other hand, moves in a direction that we do not see on every corner in ETS2. Especially together with the historic dock facilities, this could become one of the places where you do not immediately click “Continue driving” after unloading, but actually look around the surroundings for a while.

SCS is also recreating several well-known buildings away from the port. These include the Cabot Tower on Brandon Hill, the distinctive Wills Memorial Building of the University of Bristol and the Queen Elizabeth's Hospital. Their main purpose is to ensure that Bristol does not consist solely of interchangeable rows of British houses, but can also be recognised from the driver's cab.

Even a roundabout gets its big moment here. The St James Barton Roundabout, better known as The Bearpit, is one of the most distinctive traffic points in the city centre and will also be recreated. For a rework, precisely such junctions are almost more important than some pretty building on the horizon: after all, you actually have to drive through them with the truck. And especially in British city centres, a larger roundabout with a long trailer can quickly become more interesting than the next straight motorway.

Bristol is also not being prepared for trucks alone. SCS is also recreating the Bristol Bus & Coach Station . Once the upcoming Coaches DLC is released, the city is intended to become part of the coach network. Those driving passengers through Great Britain later on will therefore not only be able to pass through Bristol, but also head to it as a proper coach destination.

This fits quite well with the general direction of the UK Rework. Great Britain is not simply being modernised graphically. SCS is using the opportunity to add new cities, restructure road networks and simultaneously prepare locations for future game systems such as Coaches. Bristol shows quite clearly how far this conversion can go: The city did not exist at all previously as a regular ETS2 location and is now being built directly to today's quality level.

However, not everything is finished yet. The images shown come from an early development phase, and work is still continuing, particularly on the port and logistics area. There is also still no release date for the complete UK Rework. The only thing certain is that the rework will later be released free of charge for owners of Euro Truck Simulator 2 .

If Bristol ultimately turns out as detailed as the previous images and plans suggest, a city that ETS2 completely skipped for more than a decade could become one of the most striking places in the new Great Britain. Not only because of a famous bridge, but because the city centre, port, logistics and eventually even coach traffic will all come together in one place.

And now, regardless of whether you know Bristol: What appeals to you more about new cities like these – famous landmarks and city-centre streets, or new companies, ports and difficult places to manoeuvre?
