From Early Access to Three Platforms: Seafarer – The Ship Sim Reaches Version 1.0 Today!

From Early Access to full release: Seafarer: The Ship Sim reached version 1.0 today, September 24, 2026. On PC, this brings an end to a development phase that began on October 7, 2025. At the same time, the ship simulation is appearing for the first time on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

There are 352 days between the two dates—just slightly less than a full year. During this time, the developers released five major content updates and significantly expanded Seafarer in several areas. Version 1.0 is therefore more than a new label in the main menu. It marks the moment when the game officially leaves Early Access and presents itself to PC and console audiences simultaneously for the first time.

Five major updates have changed Seafarer

The beginning was made by the LNG & Bulk Update. Among other things, it expanded freight transport with container, bulk cargo and LNG operations, as well as additional ships. This was followed by the Rescue Update, which expanded the coast guard with new police ships, rescue operations and a revamped inspection mechanic.

The Immersion Update then revised the campaign's first chapters. It also added radio communication, daily challenges and further changes to the controls, among other things. The Career Update subsequently gave the long-term career more structure: free trade, a reputation system, work shifts, drone operations and additional campaign chapters were intended to ensure that players' own ships became more closely integrated into progression.

The fifth major update finally introduced co-op mode. Since then, up to four players have been able to operate the same ship together. Depending on the operation, tasks can be divided up: while one player steers, others can operate cranes, secure cargo, fight fires or help with rescue missions, for example.

Eight new missions for the full release

Version 1.0 itself also brings new content. The developer names eight additional missions. Four of them begin in ports, while another four can be discovered during a voyage at sea. Previously completed campaign missions and three special operations can now also be replayed via Quickplay mode.

The career has also been rebalanced for the full release. Rewards for special operations and campaign missions are higher. Fast travel is now unlocked at level 1, while the crew system follows at level 2. There are also adjustments to free trade, cargo handling, audio and controls, as well as numerous bug fixes and stability improvements.

From small workboats to large freighters

Seafarer continues to revolve around switching between different activities at sea. Players transport cargo, take part in rescue and firefighting operations, conduct patrols or work their way up through the campaign and free career. The fleet ranges from smaller boats to large cargo and tanker ships.

The work is not limited to steering and docking. Depending on the ship and assignment, cranes, water cannons, drones and rescue equipment are used, among other things. Players can also customize their own ships with names, colors, flags and logos. Those who do not want to sail alone can complete selected tasks with a crew of up to four players.

Version 1.0 does not end development

The term “full release” should not be confused with the end of all work. The developer itself describes version 1.0 as an important milestone, but has already announced further improvements after launch. The first update is set to include clearer guidance, additional tutorial maps, adjustments to several campaign missions and an automatic travel option to campaign destinations, among other things.

The fact that a first hotfix has already appeared immediately after launch also shows that development is continuing. Among other things, it fixes a crash and problems with the mission “Parking Spot”. Leaving Early Access therefore primarily means that Seafarer has reached the officially planned scope for version 1.0—not that there will be no more patches or expansions in the future.

The Steam ratings remain the major test

However, the full release is not taking place from an unburdened starting point. At the time of release, the previous Steam reviews overall are still “Mixed”. Around 64 percent of the nearly 2,000 reviews are positive; among the most recent reviews, the proportion was even below 50 percent at the time of writing. These figures are a snapshot and may change quickly after launch.

That is precisely why it will be interesting to see how the community rates version 1.0. The five major updates have undoubtedly made Seafarer more extensive. What matters now, however, is whether the controls, stability, missions and handling of the various ships can also win over those players who voiced criticism during Early Access.

With its simultaneous console launch, Seafarer is reaching a significantly larger audience today. After 352 days of Early Access, this marks less the end of a journey than the game's most important test. Are the five major updates and the new features in version 1.0 enough to make you give Seafarer a chance now—or will you wait for the first experiences after the full release?
