19 stops from the metro hub to Vienna’s wine country: Why the 35A stands out in CTS 2026!
The real 35A connects Spittelau with Salmannsdorf and serves 19 stops along the way. These include Nußdorfer Straße, Währinger Park, Gatterburggasse, Krottenbachstraße, Glanzing, Neustift am Walde and finally Salmannsdorf. A regular journey takes around 20 to 25 minutes, depending on the time of day and traffic. The route is by no means just some small feeder service on the outskirts, but directly connects several parts of Döbling with one of the most important transfer points in northern Vienna.
The starting point alone clearly distinguishes it from the expansion’s two tram lines. Spittelau is a major transport hub with the U4 and U6, as well as railway and suburban railway connections. Anyone boarding the 35A there therefore leaves an extremely urban transport environment and then travels farther and farther into Vienna’s 19th district.
From there, the character of the route increasingly changes. Via Nußdorfer Straße and Währinger Park, it heads into Döbling, later continuing along Krottenbachstraße towards Glanzing and Neustift am Walde. The topography also becomes more interesting: from the area around the Danube Canal, the route increasingly heads towards the higher-lying districts on the edge of the Vienna Woods.
At the latest in Neustift am Walde and Salmannsdorf the cityscape also changes. You are no longer in a classic, densely built inner-city district, but in a much greener part of Vienna with old village centres, wine-growing and the Vienna Woods practically on the doorstep.
And that is precisely where, for City Transport Simulator 2026 the 35A’s greatest appeal probably lies. For the Vienna Expansion, ViewApp is recreating real road layouts, intersections, stops and numerous distinctive buildings. More than 1,000 buildings are to be implemented on the new map. For the 35A, that does not simply mean 20 minutes on the same kind of urban road, but a visible transition from the major transfer hub through densely built-up district areas and out into the quieter areas towards Salmannsdorf.
There is also a completely different driving routine than on lines 37 and 38. On the tram, you inevitably follow the tracks, whereas on the bus you are directly dependent on normal road traffic: cars in front of you, intersections, traffic lights, stops and a vehicle that, as an articulated bus, must be steered cleanly through the streets.
The 35A could therefore become particularly interesting with a longer bus. While broad main roads may feel comparatively relaxed, narrower sections and curves quickly become more demanding with an articulated bus. At the same time, the surroundings change much more noticeably during a single journey than on many classic city bus routes.
