OMSI 2 stuttering? This tool automatically reduces traffic and pedestrians when your FPS drops!
OMSI 2 and performance are a relationship with a history. The bus simulator originally dates back to 2013 and can still produce situations even on modern computers in which the frame rate suddenly drops significantly. A complex map, a dense timetable, many AI vehicles, pedestrians and a demanding city center are sometimes enough to make an otherwise powerful PC unexpectedly break a sweat. This is exactly where one of the most interesting new features of AUXI Expansion 1.50 comes in.
The new AI performance scaler does not simply work with a fixed traffic value. Instead, it automatically takes the current frame rate and memory usage into account and adjusts the number of AI buses, cars and pedestrians accordingly. If a scene becomes increasingly demanding for OMSI, AUXI can therefore counteract one of the factors that creates a particularly large amount of additional load: simulated traffic and the people in the game world.
That is precisely what makes the feature so interesting. Anyone who has been driving OMSI for years knows the classic dilemma: Less traffic can improve performance, but an almost empty city quickly feels lifeless. If you set the AI density high instead, Berlin, Hamburg or a large community map looks considerably more believable – until you notice at the next major intersection that the frame rate is paying the price. With version 1.50, AUXI attempts to solve this compromise more dynamically instead of making the player search for the right value themselves before every trip.
Nevertheless, this should not be confused with a magical FPS patch. AUXI neither replaces the OMSI engine nor eliminates all of the game's technical limitations. If a map hangs while loading, a complex script causes problems or OMSI itself freezes for a brief moment, an AI scaler cannot turn it into a modern engine either. Rather, the strength of the feature lies in the fact that the tool automatically adjusts a specific control to the current situation and can thus help cushion problematic load spikes.
That is precisely why we find the approach so sensible. AUXI is not trying to turn OMSI into a different game, but takes care of typical things that many players have been handling themselves for years. This was already in line with the tool's original idea: making settings easier to access, automating processes and making some of the quirks of a simulator that is now almost 13 years old more pleasant to handle. For example, the AI scheduler that has been available for some time also allows traffic and passenger volumes to be adjusted according to the day of the week and time, without having to edit the map's configuration files every time.
With version 1.50, AUXI now goes considerably further in terms of performance and stability. In addition to the AI performance scaler, there is an optional No Sleep Patch, which is intended to enable the fastest possible responsiveness. The developers also mention extensive stability improvements, particularly under newer Windows versions. This is by no means an unimportant addition for OMSI: Many players now use the simulator on operating systems and hardware generations that did not even exist when it was originally released.
The new Performance Scaler is nevertheless only the most noticeable part of an exceptionally extensive update. For example, AUXI 1.50 introduces a mini-map directly in the HUD for the first time, displaying not only the surroundings but also the current route and stops. There is also a new timetable HUD that can display stops already served, the current stop and upcoming stops. Scheduled times and delays can also be shown. Anyone who previously had to switch back and forth between the route, timetable and OMSI's own interface now gets considerably more information directly while driving.
The HUD itself can also be configured much more flexibly. AUXI supports a grid for positioning elements, different scaling options, saved layout presets and even multi-monitor configurations. This can provide quite a bit of convenience, especially for players with a steering wheel, a larger screen or a permanent simulator setup.
The changes to the cameras are similarly practical. The field of view of the free F4 camera can be adjusted, the dashboard camera receives additional tilt settings and an experimental camera editor even allows the direct adjustment of driver and passenger cameras in supported vehicles. Such functions may seem unspectacular on a feature list, but in everyday OMSI use they can eliminate precisely the small issues that would otherwise have to be solved for every new bus through configuration files or workarounds.
Another practical addition even concerns the interior climate. AUXI can optionally automatically ensure that 21 degrees Celsius are maintained in the passenger compartment. Anyone who prefers to focus on the timetable, traffic and stops while driving no longer has to constantly readjust the heating or air conditioning themselves.
Work has also continued on the weather. Version 1.50 adds dynamic lightning, matching thunder sounds and improvements to live weather. Partly cloudy weather, for example, should no longer always be converted into a completely overcast sky. As a result, AUXI now affects the OMSI experience in a surprisingly large number of places at once, without the simulator's actual character being lost.
We find another small feature particularly appealing, one that probably every OMSI player can use at some point: AUXI automatically detects and closes OMSI loading screens that have become stuck. Of course, this does not solve the cause of every problem, but it at least saves situations in which an unresponsive loading screen unnecessarily remains in the way. Version 1.50 also provides better support for unusually long map paths.
AUXI is therefore now much more than a small additional menu. The tool combines performance aids, timetable information, camera functions, weather, convenience automation and various improvements for a simulator whose greatest strength remains its enormous depth to this day – but whose controls and technical foundation are just as clearly from another era.
That is precisely why AUXI fits OMSI 2 so well. It is not trying to replace the game, but works on the areas where its age is particularly visible in everyday use. The new automatic adjustment of AI traffic is perhaps the best example of this: Instead of requiring players to repeatedly search for the right compromise between a full city and usable performance themselves, the tool observes the situation and reacts to it.
AUXI Expansion is a paid add-on tool from Paulwise Ltd, published by Halycon Media, and requires OMSI 2 as the base game. It is currently offered for 14.95 euros in the Aerosoft Shop; it is also available directly on Steam. Existing AUXI installations receive version 1.50 automatically via Steam.

For us, the new AI performance scaler is one of the most useful additions in the update. Of course, it does not turn OMSI into a modern simulator with guaranteed 60 FPS, but it automatically intervenes precisely where many players previously had to make adjustments themselves. Together with the mini-map, timetable HUD, stability improvements and numerous small convenience features, AUXI 1.50 is therefore a pretty powerful tool for everyone who regularly drives OMSI in 2026 as well.
Are you already using AUXI, and how much does the new AI performance scaler help you on difficult maps? Would you prefer to accept somewhat less traffic if OMSI ran more stably as a result? And which of the new AUXI features is personally the most helpful for you?
