The U4 is here – but many players are already looking at the next Berlin line!
The short route remains the most frequent point of criticism. It is repeatedly pointed out that the U4 comprises only five stations and just under three kilometres. Comparisons with other Berlin lines that would have offered considerably more track therefore come up frequently. The U2 in particular is mentioned again and again, while U5, U6 and U7 are also named as desired expansions. Some players would even have preferred to receive the U4 together with the U2 as a larger package.
When it comes to the €8.99 price, however, the mood is surprisingly positive. Several responses explicitly rate it as fair or very fair – also considering that the expansion consists of more than just the route itself. Alongside the five stations, the U4 includes, among other things, new or adapted signalling technology and further technical work. The design of the route and stations is also praised.
This produces a fairly clear picture: The problem is not necessarily €8.99 for the U4, but the line’s limited size itself. Players for whom five stations are sufficient often apparently see the price as offering an appropriate balance. Those who had hoped for a major new Berlin route, on the other hand, would have preferred the U2 or another longer line directly. One individual reaction is correspondingly much more negative, while others defend the compact expansion precisely because of the additional technical work.
Our own impression is also divided. The U4 has once again been implemented with great attention to detail: The stations are elaborately designed, and in some places it is even possible to go a little beyond the station area, while houses and further environmental details are visible above the route. Tunnels, platforms and lighting also appear to have been painstakingly built; graphically, SubwaySim 2 is among the stronger subway simulations anyway. At the same time, we are left wondering whether this particular expansion is what many players have been waiting for since the new Berlin route was announced in September 2025. A complete journey takes only around six minutes in real time, and four new stations are added in total, since Nollendorfplatz was already part of the existing map. After a round trip including turnaround times, a large part of the actual route experience has therefore already been seen after about 15 minutes. After 30 minutes at the latest, a certain monotony sets in despite the attractive implementation. The additional scenarios do provide some more variety, but they do not change the fact that the route’s sheer scope remains very limited for just under nine euros.
At the same time, the U4 is already turning attention toward Berlin’s future. Because the new route was integrated into the existing map, ideas for an ever-growing network are emerging in the community. Players are considering longer Sandbox journeys, additional scenarios and possible future connections with other lines. However, a direct journey from the U1 onto the U4 is not simply possible as a regular passenger service because of the real track layout at Nollendorfplatz; corresponding routes or turnaround manoeuvres would be required.
This is precisely why the U2 is mentioned so frequently. Together with the U1 and U3, it would significantly expand the existing Berlin small-profile network and enable additional routes. However, this does not confirm that the U2 will actually be next. In community feedback, it is currently simply requested far more often than other Berlin routes.
Alongside the U4 itself, several general technical topics also remain present. Players are addressing existing bugs and performance problems and would like to see them continue to be worked on alongside new DLCs. These responses do not necessarily concern the new route itself, but they feed into the general assessment of SubwaySim 2 and further expansions.
After the first day, the mood is therefore mixed, but by no means fundamentally negative. The U4 is criticised for its short length, while some players rate the price, implementation and technical additions positively. Above all, however, the expansion has raised a new question: If Berlin continues to grow as a connected map in the future, which route should be added next?

What is your verdict after the first day: Are the U4’s five stations enough for €8.99 – or should SubwaySim 2 have continued directly with a longer Berlin line?
