More than 1,000 buildings for three lines: This is how Vienna is being built in City Transport Simulator 2026!
The Vienna Expansion for City Transport Simulator 2026 will be released on October 13, 2026 and recreates not only the routes of the three new lines. More than 1,000 buildings are being created along the routes, while the street layouts and stops are based on their real-life counterparts. Characteristic areas of the Austrian capital are also included.
The map connects several parts of northwestern Vienna. Tram lines 37 and 38 both start at Schottentor. Line 37 then heads to Hohe Warte, while line 38 continues to Grinzing. Bus line 35A starts in Spittelau and ends in Salmannsdorf.
A large part of these routes lies in Döbling, Vienna's 19th municipal district. The district covers 24.9 square kilometers and has a green-space share of around 62 percent. Vineyards and Heurigen are also part of this area of Vienna.
The two tram lines initially share a common section. From Schottentor, the route passes, among other places, along Schwarzspanierstraße, Spitalgasse, Alserbachstraße, Canisiusgasse and Nußdorfer Straße. The routes then split. Line 37 heads toward Hohe Warte, while line 38 continues via Oberdöbling to Grinzing. In the real timetable of line 38, the route includes, among others, Hardtgasse, Gatterburggasse, Silbergasse, Oberdöbling, Sieveringer Straße and Paradisgasse.
Grinzing lies at the outer end of line 38 and is one of old Vienna's wine villages. Numerous traditional Heurigen are located there, while the village also leads onward toward Vienna's vineyards. Such Heurigen areas are also part of the Vienna Expansion. In addition to them, historic buildings and public squares along the new routes are being recreated.
The Heurigen are not limited to Grinzing. Well-known Viennese wine villages include, among others, Neustift, Nussdorf, Sievering and Grinzing. Salmannsdorf is also located in this part of Vienna shaped by viticulture.
The 35A connects Spittelau with Salmannsdorf, thus covering a different part of the map than the two tram lines. In the real network, it runs from Spittelau through the 19th district to Salmannsdorf. The route passes through areas also served by lines 37 and 38. The current Wiener Linien timetable still lists Spittelau and Salmannsdorf as its termini.
As a result, the three new CTS lines are not independent of one another on the map. Lines 37 and 38 share the section from Schottentor toward Nußdorfer Straße, while the 35A also runs through this part of Vienna's transport network. The routes then branch out toward Hohe Warte, Grinzing and Salmannsdorf.
The more than 1,000 buildings form the surroundings along these routes. No specific square-kilometer figure for the playable Vienna map has been given so far. It therefore cannot be inferred how large the entire drivable area outside the lines will be. What is certain is that the streets, stops and buildings along the three connections have been designed based on their real-life counterparts.
The map also includes authentic AI traffic as well as dynamic passengers and pedestrians. This means that the buses and trams run through regular city traffic, while additional people are on the move at the stops and along the streets.
The tram lines use ULF A and ULF B. The 35A can be operated with the C2 and C2 articulated bus in Wiener Linien livery. The interiors and driver's cabs of the new vehicles are also part of the expansion.
The Vienna Expansion thus connects the more densely built-up areas around Schottentor with residential neighborhoods in the 19th district and the outer sections around Grinzing and Salmannsdorf shaped by viticulture and Heurigen. More than 1,000 buildings, real street layouts and authentic stops form the surroundings of the three lines.

On October 13, lines 37, 38 and 35A will finally become driveable themselves. It will then also be possible to compare directly how closely the streets, stops and buildings resemble the real areas around Schottentor, Döbling, Grinzing and Salmannsdorf.
Do you know Döbling, Grinzing, Hohe Warte or Salmannsdorf from real Vienna, and will you specifically compare certain places? Do you prefer three meticulously recreated lines over a larger network with a less accurately recreated environment? Which other Viennese line should, in your opinion, be added to the map later?
