From the 12-Metre C2 to the 35-Metre ULF: These Four Vehicles Are Coming with the Vienna Expansion!
When the Vienna Expansion on 13 October is released, City Transport Simulator 2026 will not only take players for the first time along three real Vienna routes through a recreated major city. The vehicle fleet will also be expanded accordingly. 37 and 38 tram lines will have ULF A and ULF B available, while on the 35A between Spittelau and Salmannsdorf both a C2 solo bus and a C2 articulated bus in Wiener Linien livery can be driven.
The difference between the two trams is particularly clear. ULF stands for Ultra Low Floor and refers to a vehicle family closely associated with Vienna. When the series was ordered in the 1990s, two different lengths were already produced: a short version measuring around 24 metres and a long one measuring around 35 metres. The short version was intended to replace a conventional tram car without a trailer, while the long version could replace a classic combination of motor car and trailer.
These two basic variants are now also coming to the Vienna Expansion. The ULF A represents the short version, while the ULF B is the long one. This puts around eleven metres of vehicle length between them. In the new CTS routes, both variants can be used on lines 37 and 38.
A special feature of the real ULF is already contained in its name. The vehicle floor was arranged particularly low, and the vehicle does not have conventional continuous wheelset axles. A 35-metre-long ULF offers space for a maximum of 213 people in the real-life vehicle and is supplied with 600 volts. The axle-free concept enabled particularly low entry.
In addition to the different exterior dimensions, the driver's cabs and interiors of both trams are also being recreated. The driver's cab in particular clearly distinguishes the ULF from the vehicles previously known from Tramau. The passenger compartment, doors and typical Viennese design are also part of the vehicle package.
On the 35A, however, it continues by bus. Two sizes are also available for this route. The CTS C2 series is based on the 12-metre-long C2 solo bus and the 18-metre-long C2G articulated bus. For Vienna, both receive their matching Wiener Linien livery. 12-metre buses and 18-metre articulated buses also play a major role in the real Vienna bus network.
This means the same route can be driven with two clearly different vehicle sizes. The 35A runs from Spittelau via Döbling to Salmannsdorf and can be operated within the Vienna Expansion with either a solo bus or an articulated bus.
In terms of vehicles, this results in a fairly clear division: 37 and 38 belong to the ULF, while the C2 buses take over on the 35A. At the same time, a shorter and a longer variant are available for each of the two modes of transport. For the bus, these measure approximately 12 and 18 metres respectively; for the ULF, around 24 and 35 metres.
The vehicles do not run on a detached fantasy map. More than 1,000 realistically recreated buildings, corresponding road layouts and stops form the surroundings along the three routes. Historic buildings, public squares and Viennese wine tavern areas are included, as are AI traffic and dynamic passengers and pedestrians.
The Vienna Expansion launches on October 13, 2026 and will cost €49.99. The price consists of just under €30 for the new Vienna map and just under €20 for the included vehicles. The shop page is already online, while the expansion itself will become available for purchase at release.

If you already own City Transport Simulator 2026 and also want the other content released throughout the year, you can alternatively get the Season Pass for €64.99. The complete Vienna Expansion is included. Compared with purchasing all included DLCs separately, the Season Pass saves around 40 percent.

Simulatoren-News readers can save an additional 5 percent: Simply use the code SIMULATORENNEWS in the official CTS Shop when purchasing the Vienna Expansion, Vienna Edition or Season Pass. The discount applies to the Steam keys offered through the shop.
At the current prices, that means:
- Vienna Expansion: €49.99 → approx. €47.49
- Vienna Edition: €69.99 → approx. €66.49
- Season Pass: €64.99 → approx. €61.74
This means that four very different driver's cabs are available for Vienna: 12-metre solo bus, 18-metre articulated bus, approximately 24-metre short ULF and approximately 35-metre long ULF. There is therefore a shorter and a longer vehicle option for both tram lines and the 35A – and from 13 October, all four can be driven by the player.
Which of the four vehicles would you take over first in the Vienna Expansion: ULF A, ULF B, C2 or C2 articulated bus? Do you know the ULF or the Citaro from real Wiener Linien operations, and are you looking forward to the direct comparison with their implementation in the simulator?
