Draw Roads on the Map Yourself?! This New Simulator Actually Lets Us Freely Plan and Build!
On a map, we first choose where construction is to take place, decide on a road type and then draw the desired route. This is not limited to completely new roads: Projects range from renovating existing roadways and building gravel and farm roads to country roads and federal highways.
We then get into the machines ourselves and carry out the necessary work steps. These include, among others, excavators, graders, dump trucks, binding agent spreaders, asphalt pavers, a road roller, tandem rollers, cold milling machines and a road-marking machine. This means that the player first decides what is to be built – and then actually has to turn their own plan into asphalt.
Those who first want to familiarize themselves with the machines and processes will get an academy mode with its own missions. Vehicle operation as well as the fundamentals of road planning, new construction and renovation are taught there. In sandbox mode, many restrictions are removed and roads can be freely planned and built.
A dedicated operations yard is also included. The machines are kept there, the vehicle fleet can be customized by color, and the work clothing can also be changed. There is still no specific release date. Straßenbau Simulator is set to be released for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The basic idea therefore sounds quite interesting – although this time Caipirinha Games also has to show that a good idea can become an equally good game. The developer’s most recent releases in particular have not consistently won over players.
Released only on August 13, 2026, Emergency Room Simulator currently has only around 39 percent positive user reviews on Steam and is therefore classified as “Mostly Negative.” Straßenmeisterei Simulator 2 + Winterdienst is also receiving a mixed response: Around 50 percent of Steam reviews are positive. Among other things, players criticized technical problems, bugs and the vehicles’ driving behavior.
Of course, this does not automatically mean that the new Straßenbau Simulator will have the same problems. Precisely because Caipirinha Games is pursuing a rather exciting idea this time with freely drawing and planning its own roads, it will be crucial whether the driving physics, controls, technical quality and long-term variety can keep up as well.
There is also currently a minor inconsistency regarding the number of machines included: In the official announcement and its own store, Aerosoft names nine different machines. On Steam, the figure is sometimes given as ten, although only nine specific machine types are listed there as well. Until this has been clarified, we would therefore assume that there are nine vehicles and machines actually named.
The freedom to plan roads could clearly set the title apart from classic construction simulations. Instead of merely selecting the next prepared construction site, we decide ourselves where our road should be built in the first place and what route it should take. The idea has potential – but Caipirinha Games now has to show that the implementation is equally convincing this time.
What do you think of the idea: Would you like to plan your roads completely by yourself – or are you initially more cautious after Caipirinha Games’ last games?
