180+ Machines, 35+ Brands, Demolition and Manual Labor: Gamescom Will Show How Big Construction Simulator: Evolution's Next Step Really Is!
That foundation is worth remembering. The current Construction Simulator, released in 2022, was also developed by weltenbauer. Software Entwicklung and published by astragon Entertainment. Almost four years later, Steam lists more than 14,000 reviews across all languages, with well over 11,000 positive. That does not guarantee that every new idea will succeed, but it does mean Evolution is being built by a team that already knows the franchise, its machinery, licensing partners and central gameplay loop.
This time the scale is considerable. More than 180 construction machines, vehicles and attachments from over 35 brands are planned. Familiar manufacturers such as Caterpillar, CIFA, JCB, Kenworth, Liebherr and SANY are joined by new licensors including Ammann, Epiroc, Sennebogen and Volvo Construction Equipment. astragon describes it as the most varied and extensive fleet in the history of the series.
But perhaps the most important change takes place outside the cab. For the first time, players will be able to perform manual work themselves: plastering walls and using tools such as jackhammers, shovels and nail guns. Proper demolition work is also being introduced, using hydraulic breakers and specialist equipment alongside a new destruction-physics system. That could significantly change the rhythm of a construction project: operate heavy machinery, leave the cab, work directly on the site and then return to larger equipment as the project progresses.
That direction is particularly promising because Construction Simulator has always been at its most satisfying when a large site gradually transforms through many individual jobs. Evolution appears to be expanding precisely that aspect. Rather than simply adding an even bigger machine catalogue, it wants to give players more to do between those machines.
There are also two new environments. Maienstein is inspired by idyllic German and Central European scenery, while Amber Falls takes inspiration from a Midwestern US city. Each receives its own extensive campaign and story. The new Quick Play mode lets players skip straight to a preconfigured construction activity with suitable equipment, while multiplayer once again supports up to four players – this time with crossplay between platforms.
Construction Simulator: Evolution is currently scheduled for Q4 2026 and can already be wishlisted on Steam:

And gamescom arrives at exactly the right moment. astragon and Team17 will be in Hall 6, booth B-060 from August 26 to 30, with Construction Simulator: Evolution among astragon's major simulation titles. In the business area in Hall 4.2, astragon is explicitly advertising the first-ever opportunity to play Evolution for media representatives, creators and industry partners, alongside direct insights from the developers at weltenbauer.
That gives the gamescom appearance real value. For the first time, it becomes possible to judge whether the expanded concept actually works. Does manual labor feel meaningful rather than like a collection of tiny minigames? How convincing is the destruction system? How different do the machines feel? And does combining machinery, direct construction work and demolition make each site more varied?
There are good reasons to approach those questions with optimism. Not because 180 machines automatically make a great game, but because Evolution is building on a franchise whose underlying formula already works. weltenbauer. has years of experience with Construction Simulator, astragon has a long history in work-simulation publishing, and the existing game continues to maintain a substantial, largely positive Steam audience. Evolution currently looks less like an attempt to reinvent a successful formula and more like an effort to add the right next layer to it.
That is why manual work may ultimately matter even more than the headline number of 180 machines. Excavators and cranes remain essential, but if we can step out of the cab, pick up a jackhammer, work directly on the construction site and later demolish an entire structure with heavy machinery, projects may feel more like our own workplace than ever before in the series.

Perhaps the real “Evolution” is not simply turning a large fleet into an even larger one. The important change may be that players can finally do more on a construction site than move from one driver's seat to another. If weltenbauer. can combine its established machinery gameplay with convincing manual work, demolition physics, two varied worlds and the significantly expanded scope, this could become a very strong next step for Construction Simulator. The foundations are already there – now gamescom gives us our first proper look at how everything fits together.
What interests you most about Construction Simulator: Evolution: the 180+ machines, the new brands, demolition, or the ability to finally work directly on the construction site with hand tools? And what should we pay particularly close attention to during gamescom?
