No More New TSW Content on PS4 and Xbox One: What You Need to Know!

Dovetail Games announced a major platform change on August 3, 2026. Future Train Sim World titles and newly developed add-ons will now only be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will not receive those future releases.

Dovetail says the change will allow developers to take greater advantage of current-generation hardware, with the aim of improving performance and visual quality without being restricted by the older consoles.

That does not mean Train Sim World 6 stops working on PS4 or Xbox One. TSW6, earlier games and content already released for those platforms remain playable and available for purchase.

Players upgrading within the same console ecosystem also keep access to their purchased games and add-ons. On PlayStation, purchases provide both PS4 and PS5 versions where applicable. Xbox automatically downloads the appropriate version for the console being used.

There is one important difference when it comes to saved progress.

Xbox One save data is linked to the player's Xbox account and can synchronize with Xbox Series X|S.

PlayStation works differently. A PS4 Train Sim World profile cannot be transferred into the PS5 version. Players can, however, continue running the PS4 version of TSW6 and earlier titles on their PS5 if they want to retain that profile. Mastery progress is stored separately through Dovetail Live and therefore carries across.

So Train Sim World is not suddenly ending on older consoles. Instead, Dovetail is drawing a line under future development.

For current-generation players, that could open the door to more ambitious content. Dovetail specifically highlights more AI traffic, faster loading and higher graphical fidelity among the advantages of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

For PS4 and Xbox One players, the choice is now clear: existing TSW6 content remains available, but anyone wanting future routes, trains and later Train Sim World releases will eventually need newer hardware or a PC.
