60 kilometres remain 60 kilometres: These 3 ETS2 maps use a 1:1 scale!
The standard European world in Euro Truck Simulator 2 uses a heavily compressed scale of roughly 1:19 outside cities. That is why we can complete journeys in a single evening that would take a real truck several hours. A 1:1 map removes that compression: approximately one kilometre on the map represents one kilometre of actual road. This changes not only distances, but also the significance of villages, junctions, industrial areas and supposedly short contracts.
One of the best-known German projects is the RPM Rheinland und Pfalz Map. It recreates parts of southwestern Germany at 1:1 scale and deliberately uses realistic road widths. Instead of concentrating mainly on wide highways, the map contains narrow village streets, winding forest tracks, hidden roads and demanding company entrances. Some businesses and parking locations were designed using feedback from real regional truck drivers. Animated loading, pedestrians at zebra crossings and additional AI traffic such as city buses are also included.
RPM is currently available as version 1.3.1 for ETS2 1.60. Recent additions include Queidersbach, additional companies, new hidden roads and a Special Transport route carrying a long wind-turbine blade. Version 1.3.1 also rebuilt a forest area near Hermersbergerhof. RPM requires a new profile using the rpm.mbd map module and depends on numerous official map DLCs.
Grand Utopia takes a completely different approach. Rather than reproducing a real region as accurately as possible, MyGodness has created an entirely fictional world at 1:1 scale. This gives the development team freedom to design its own cities, motorways, industrial districts, landscapes and road networks without being restricted by real geography. Grand Utopia has now exceeded 325,000 downloads on TruckyMods, making it one of the most prominent 1:1 ETS2 projects.
Development remains active. The current version 1.20c supports ETS2 1.60. The major 1.20 update expanded the road network, added Prat l'Étang and Saint-Sébastien-le-Bec and prepared the map for further expansion. Version 1.20c additionally introduced an underground depot beneath the Utopia stadium.
The most unusual option is European Grand Utopia. Grand Utopia normally operates as a standalone map, but this additional mod integrates its fictional archipelago into a normal European profile. Players can therefore access the familiar SCS Europe and Grand Utopia through the same profile structure. The extension requires the current Grand Utopia files and several official map DLCs, while ProMods is listed as partially compatible.
That creates a particularly unusual combination: SCS Software's heavily compressed European continent alongside Grand Utopia's much larger-scale fictional environment. European Grand Utopia is therefore especially interesting for players who want to experience the fantasy map without permanently abandoning their regular Europe profile.
The third project returns to reality. Real Poland 1:1 concentrates on a detailed region around Warsaw. Instead of trying to recreate the entire country immediately, the project focuses on a relatively small area with realistic distances, road widths, junctions and local details. Its developers list real company names, custom models, pedestrians at crossings and a full 1:1 time scale among the project's key features.
This is where the advantage of the scale becomes particularly obvious. A small village does not consist merely of several buildings placed next to a compressed road. There is room for the fields, junctions, access roads and smaller routes that would normally disappear because of map compression.
Real Poland is also a standalone map and cannot simply be combined with the standard SCS Europe map or ProMods. The official project thread is currently labelled for ETS2 1.56, so players using the latest ETS2 build should pay close attention to compatibility before installing it.
That is also the fundamental limitation of 1:1 projects. Even recreating a relatively small real-world region requires enormous amounts of roads, assets and detailed mapping. A small volunteer team cannot simply rebuild the entire European continent at this scale.
The reward is a completely different kind of simulation. RPM shows how detailed a real German region can become. Real Poland applies the same idea around Warsaw. Grand Utopia removes the geographical restrictions entirely and uses 1:1 scale to create its own enormous world.
Suddenly, even an 80-kilometre contract has a different meaning: it is no longer a quick trip before dinner, but a proper drive.
Would you rather have all of Europe at the familiar compressed scale, or just one region recreated completely at 1:1?
