Months without a date – SubwaySim 2 finally ends the wait for Update 10!
Thank you for your understanding!
Update 10 has been one of SubwaySim 2’s biggest unanswered questions for months. New features, fixes and improvements were repeatedly discussed, but the most important question remained unanswered: when would players actually get to use them?
It is perfectly reasonable for a developer to avoid announcing a date before an update is stable enough. The more questionable part was the communication surrounding that uncertainty. Community questions were sometimes answered in an unusually defensive or sharp way. With such a long-awaited update, a simple and calm “we are not ready to announce a date yet” would have been a much stronger approach.
That discussion can finally end.
Update 10 will launch on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
That leaves almost two weeks for final testing and polishing. And the published feature list shows that this is far more than an ordinary patch.
One major focus is stability. Broken or incompatible .pak files should now be detected before they can crash the game. Problematic mods will be reported during startup and automatically skipped. Further general stability improvements are also promised, alongside better performance, particularly on the Berlin map.
Normal gameplay is changing as well. Passengers may occasionally run towards arriving trains or move faster depending on the situation. Career Mode provides more preparation time before departure, while seamless timetable transitions no longer use the previous fade-out and fade-in.
The new settings are especially interesting. AI trains can be disabled completely, pedestrian numbers can be increased substantially and the HUD becomes modular. Timetable Mode also allows players to choose whether they spawn one, two, three, four or five minutes before departure.
Vehicles receive numerous changes too. All trains gain switch-crossing sounds, door-close buttons work across the fleet and brake squeal will finally be audible on the player-driven train.
Berlin receives extensive changes. The HK class gets adjustments to sound, driving and braking behaviour, plus several control-system improvements. A3L92 and GI/1E also receive sound changes, while AI GI/1E trains will now appear on consoles.
Hamburg is being revised as well. Speed-monitoring systems are being checked, the “Cleaning Up the Depot” scenario is fixed, and both the DT5 and AL1 receive new stereo sound sets.
Update 10 genuinely looks like one of the largest free updates SubwaySim 2 has received so far. Considering the sheer number of changes, the lengthy development process becomes easier to understand.
The communication beforehand still deserves criticism. An update can take longer. A release date can remain unknown. But when that happens, community questions should not be treated as an annoyance.
On August 13, only one thing will matter: whether the promised improvements actually work as well as the long development period suggests.
Was the long wait justified by the size of Update 10, or should SubwaySim 2 have communicated much earlier and more openly?
