From city blocks to village houses: Soul of Anatolia receives around 300 unique models!
Soul of Anatolia is not intended to consist simply of familiar ETS2 buildings redistributed alongside new roads. SCS Software’s asset team is producing around 300 new general 3D models for the map expansion. Separate landmarks will also be built for prominent structures that should make real locations immediately recognisable.
That number matters because the expansion connects several very different regions. The planned map stretches from Istanbul to Aksaray and includes locations such as Ankara, Antalya and Alanya. Coastal cities, major metropolitan areas, open plains, mountain regions and rural communities therefore require different architectural styles.
To represent them, the team is creating modern residential and commercial buildings, older city structures, smaller properties and houses typical of rural western Türkiye. The models are based on research and close cooperation between the map and asset teams. They are then placed wherever they best match the relevant city or region.
SCS has deliberately avoided showing a specific completed city this time. The new buildings appear in a temporary test environment in the published images. Map designers are still constructing the actual locations, which will be introduced in later blog posts.
The approximately 300 models do not represent the complete asset total either. SCS explains that new assets continue to be created throughout development. The current selection therefore shows only a small fraction of what is expected to appear in Soul of Anatolia.
The usual individual landmarks are being produced separately. General buildings can be reused in several parts of a city or region, while significant structures are recreated specifically. These landmarks should allow players to identify important locations through their surroundings rather than relying only on road signs.
The previously announced map area already provides several notable candidates. Confirmed structures include the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and Osmangazi Bridge. Ankara, the capital city, Lake Tuz and the tourist destinations of Antalya and Alanya are also part of the officially described region.
The roads themselves are also expected to provide substantial variety. SCS promises coastal routes in both the north and south, alongside mountain roads with steep climbs, tight corners and expansive views. Soul of Anatolia should therefore be recognisable not only through its buildings, but also through changing landscapes and more demanding roads.
There is still no confirmed release date. Steam lists Soul of Anatolia only as “To be announced”. A price and complete list of included cities have also not been published.
The new preview therefore does not show a completed city or a new route that can already be compared in detail. However, it demonstrates the amount of work behind such a map expansion. Before we can drive through Ankara, Antalya or Anatolian villages, hundreds of buildings and environmental assets must be created, tested and positioned throughout the map.
Around 300 new general models plus individual landmarks are intended to prevent Soul of Anatolia from feeling like a familiar ETS2 map with Turkish signs added. Every city should receive its own architecture and clearly recognisable character.
Are hundreds of new buildings more important to you than including the largest possible number of additional cities?
