RailWorld: Tram Simulator does not live from the map alone. If the project is going to work, the vehicles have to carry it. And this is exactly where the selection becomes interesting: Konstal 105Na, Düwag GT6 and Düwag GT8 are not random museum pieces, but fit very closely to the historical Poznań RailWorld wants to show. The team names early-2000s Poznań trams as the focus of the first development phase and explicitly mentions 105Na, GT6 and GT8 as vehicles players will be able to operate.

Still, the wording has to be handled carefully: it does not automatically prove that all three vehicles will be fully included in a specific release build or on day one. What is confirmed is that they have been shown or named for the early development phase. Everything else depends on how RailWorld is ultimately released.

Konstal 105Na: the Polish everyday icon

The Konstal 105Na is probably the most important vehicle for RailWorld, because in Poland it is not just any old tram. It is one of the defining high-floor tram types of the country. The 105Na was built by Konstal in Chorzów; its construction period is listed as 1979 to 1992. It is a four-axle unidirectional motor tram with four doors and was used in many Polish cities.

The connection to Poznań is especially strong. MPK Poznań states that the city received 248 factory-new four-axle motor cars of the 105N generation between 1975 and 1990. These cars were modernised many times during service and were usually operated as two-car sets. This made the type not just present, but part of the everyday tram image for many years.

That is exactly why the 105Na fits RailWorld so well. Anyone recreating early-2000s Poznań can hardly avoid this vehicle. It stands for robust technology, high steps, simple interiors, loud running sounds and that very direct feeling of older Eastern European tram operation.

RailWorld also does not appear to be building only a generic 105Na model. The team has already shown the interior and stressed that recreating the many modifications and details from years of service was not easy. In addition, an interactive low-voltage cabinet for the 105Na was presented, allowing simple faults to be handled and affected motor groups to be switched off.
The 105NaD variant is also important for Poznań. RailWorld describes it as a converted powered trailer car where the rarely used driver’s cab in the rear car was removed to create more passenger space. According to the collected developer posts, the first 105NaD appeared in Poznań in 1995; over the years, more 105Na trams were converted until this solution dominated in 2009.

Sound is also becoming concrete. In February 2026, RailWorld wrote that thanks to the Klub Miłośników Starych Tramwajów w Łodzi, sounds for the 105Na had been recorded and were being prepared. That matters because the 105Na lives through its sound: acceleration, switching, braking, doors, relays and the typical rumble of old high-floor technology are at least as important for the feeling as the 3D model.

Düwag GT6: the German classic in Polish exile

The Düwag GT6 brings a different story to RailWorld. It is a German articulated tram classic that shaped many operators from the 1950s onward. In Düsseldorf, the first six-axle Düwag articulated railcar was delivered to Rheinbahn in February 1956. The GT6 consisted of two car bodies connected by a Jacobs bogie, making it one of the defining post-war articulated trams from German production.

Historically and technically, the GT6 represents a different tram world than the 105Na. It is also a high-floor vehicle, but it comes from West German post-war modernisation: large-capacity car thinking, passenger flow, articulated construction and robust long-service design. That is why many German tram fans recognise its shape immediately, even when it is running in Poznań in different colours.

Several of these German Düwag vehicles came to Poznań as second-hand trams. Tramtrain.de states that four Düsseldorf GT6 cars reached Poznań in 1996 and 1998; a fifth vehicle arrived in 2003 via an intermediary and was preserved as a museum vehicle. Compared with the many GT8 cars, the GT6 apparently played a smaller role in regular service.

For RailWorld, the GT6 is still important. It is the shorter brother of the GT8 and therefore shows another side of the fleet. RailWorld itself described the GT6 as the shorter sibling of the GT8 without the middle section. It was also noted that many GT8 trams in Poznań were originally converted from GT6 units by adding a middle section.

This creates an interesting difference in the simulator. A shorter articulated tram should feel different from a longer GT8. It should feel tighter, more direct and more agile, while the GT8 should behave differently in curves because of its length and additional articulation. A full driving physics feature list is not confirmed by that, but the vehicle choice suggests that RailWorld could offer more than just different exterior models.

Düwag GT8: the long high-floor survivor

The Düwag GT8 is perhaps the most important German classic for Poznań. It is essentially the longer, eight-axle version of the Düwag articulated tram family. In Düsseldorf, an eight-axle double-articulated railcar was already introduced one year after the first GT6: the known GT6 was extended into a GT8 by adding a middle section and an additional Jacobs bogie.

The connection to Poznań is strong here as well. Düsseldorf GT8 cars reached Poznań from 1997 onward; according to Tramtrain.de, a total of 53 GT8 cars moved from Düsseldorf to Poznań by 2010 and shaped the cityscape there for years together with GT8 cars from Frankfurt. The last Düsseldorf GT8 cars remained in service in Poznań until November 2019.

Frankfurt eight-axle Düwag cars also came to Poznań. Frankfurt received classic eight-axle Düwag articulated cars in 1963 and 1969; from 2000 onward, these high-floor vehicles were gradually withdrawn. According to Tramtrain.de, eleven Frankfurt N cars reached Poznań between 2000 and 2002.

That makes the GT8 an excellent fit for the RailWorld setting. Recreating early-2000s Poznań does not only mean showing Polish serial-production vehicles. It also means showing the wave of used German trams that helped many Eastern European operators strengthen their fleets at the time.

In the simulator, the GT8 is also supposed to differ technically from the 105Na according to the information collected so far. RailWorld showed an interactive low-voltage cabinet in the GT8 and explained that, unlike in the 105Na, certain switches are not located in the cabinet but in the driver’s cab. The passenger compartment heating is also said to be controlled via fuses behind a panel.

That is exactly what can make RailWorld interesting. The GT8 would not just be the long Düwag with different visuals, but a vehicle with its own operating logic. Different switch positions, different technical procedures, a different cab, different length, different sound and different driving feel – that is where simulation begins.

Why these three vehicles work together

The strength of this selection is that it does not show cleanly separated museum worlds. 105Na, GT6 and GT8 belong to the same transition period. The 105Na stands for Polish everyday service, serial vehicles, modernisations and classic high-floor operation in Poznań. GT6 and GT8 stand for German second-hand classics that continued their working lives in Poland.

RailWorld therefore tells city history through vehicles. Early-2000s Poznań was not just a backdrop with tracks. It was a network with old Polish vehicles, imported German classics, conversions, modernisations and operational compromises. That is exactly what can make a historical simulation stronger than a simple vehicle list.

But the line between fact and expectation matters. Historically confirmed are the importance of the 105Na in Poland and Poznań and the operation of German Düwag vehicles in Poznań. Confirmed for RailWorld is that 105Na, GT6 and GT8 were named for the early development phase and that concrete details such as the low-voltage cabinet, 105NaD elements, passenger reactions and 105Na sound recordings were publicly shown or described. Not confirmed is a complete final release list with the exact feature scope of every vehicle.
That is why RailWorld should not be read as a finished promise, but as an ambitious approach. If the three vehicles later really feel different in operation, the project could deliver something many tram simulators lack: vehicles that do not only look different, but are operated differently, sound different and want to be driven differently.
