Why Hamburg U1 & U3 for Train Simulator is not available on Steam yet!

When it comes to Hamburg U1 & U3 for Train Simulator Classic, you first have to separate things clearly: The new addon already exists, but it is currently not available everywhere. At Just Trains, the route is sold as U-Bahn Hamburg U1 & U3. Included are the complete U1 and U3, around 70 stations, about 76 kilometers of route, as well as drivable DT5 and DT4 trains. The U3 itself is described as being around 20.6 kilometers long with 25 stations.

On Steam, the situation is different. There, the older U-Bahn Hamburg U1 is still listed as a separate Train Simulator addon. According to SteamDB, this U1 version was released on August 3, 2023; Just Trains is listed as the developer and Dovetail Games as the publisher. Exactly this point is important: On Steam, the distribution of such Train Simulator content does not simply run through Just Trains alone, but through the Steam and DTG release path.

In the community, it has been reported for some time that Hamburg U1 & U3 is also planned for Steam. In a post on the Dovetail forum in March 2026, it was said that owners of the U1 should receive a discount – regardless of whether they buy from Just Trains or later on Steam. In another forum post, it was also written that Just Trains had handed the U3 and the updated U1 over to DTG so that it can be released on Steam. Important, however: These are community or forum pieces of information and not a detailed official release statement with a date.

That is exactly why an unpleasant waiting situation is created for players. Anyone who absolutely wants to drive the addon immediately can already buy it directly from Just Trains. But anyone who owns the old U1 on Steam, wants to use Steam credit, or wants to keep their Train Simulator library as completely as possible on Steam is waiting for the release there. For this group, the delay feels especially annoying.

The sticking point is additionally that Hamburg U1 & U3 is not a completely isolated new DLC. The new release combines a significantly revised U1 with the complete U3. According to the product description, the U1 has been revised, including a completely reworked Meßberg station, an updated network area near Berne, new traffic signals, and revised stations. So this is not just about “adding the U3”, but about a larger overall package made up of the old route, an updated route, and a new line.

Added to this is the understandable frustration over price promotions. If the old U1 is temporarily discounted on Steam while the new U1 & U3 version is still missing, it looks unfavorable for waiting players. From a customer’s perspective, the impression quickly arises: The old version continues to be sold, but the new overall package that is actually expected is still not there. Whether this internally has to do with DTG, Steam processes, data checks, or the specific product structure cannot be conclusively proven publicly.

For players, this currently means: Anyone who wants to drive immediately has to switch to the available shops outside Steam. Anyone who wants to use Steam credit, manage their content collectively on Steam, or wait for an owner discount for the old U1 has to remain patient. A concrete Steam date is currently not available.

The problem does not appear to be that the addon is unfinished or not released at all. Hamburg U1 & U3 is already available directly from Just Trains and, according to the product page, includes the complete U1 and U3 lines with around 70 stations and approximately 76 kilometres of route length. On Steam, however, only the older U-Bahn Hamburg U1 is currently available as a separate addon.

Bottom line: The situation is therefore less a problem of the addon itself, and more a problem of the release and platform chain. Hamburg U1 & U3 is finished enough to be sold. But until it appears in the Steam store, Just Trains, DTG, and Steam apparently have to come together cleanly. That is exactly the interface where things are currently stuck – and that is exactly why the frustration of many Steam players is understandable.
