Transport Fever 3 is still in development and is planned for release in 2026. With the new First Look: Highlights episode, Urban Games and Paradox Interactive now give a much broader look at how strongly the sequel is meant to differ from Transport Fever 2. The focus is not only on more vehicles or prettier maps, but on systems that interact more directly with each other.

One of the most important changes concerns the game world itself. Transport Fever 3 is meant to become livelier and more dynamic. This includes a day-night cycle, changing weather, more realistic movements of passengers and vehicles, as well as cities and industries that react more strongly to their surroundings. Industrial businesses can emerge depending on climate, landscape and environment. As a result, not every map should develop according to the same pattern.

Freight transport becomes especially interesting. Every cargo type will have an expected delivery time. Perishable goods such as food need to arrive faster, while raw materials such as coal or stone can spend more time in transit. This makes vehicle choice much more important than before. It is no longer enough to look only at capacity and costs. Players have to decide whether a delivery should be fast, cheap or especially efficient.

This is exactly where the new vehicle categories come in. Transport Fever 3 is planned to include over 300 vehicles already in the base game. These include trains, trams, buses, trucks, ships, planes and, for the first time, helicopters. Planes and helicopters can transport goods especially quickly, but are more expensive. Trains or trucks remain cheaper, but take longer. This makes Transport Fever 3 more strategic, because speed itself becomes an economic factor.

On-time supply also feeds directly into city growth. According to the information shown, timely delivery is one of six requirements that must be fulfilled for maximum city growth. This means a city’s development no longer depends only on whether goods arrive at all, but also on whether they arrive within the right time window.

Long-term progression is also being expanded. Successful transport networks influence not only cities, but also the rank of your own company. Higher company ranks can unlock bonuses and new mechanics. Mentioned examples include searching for new raw material deposits, marketing campaigns and further company advantages and specialisations. This gives the development of a transport empire more structure than just “more lines, more vehicles, more money.”

Another major point is the new line manager. Lines, stops and vehicles should be manageable more strongly within one shared view. At the same time, the user interface is more closely connected to the 3D game world. Routes can therefore be selected, extended or changed more directly. Moving stops should also become easier, because an existing station can be selected in the line manager and replaced with a new one.

Transport Fever 3 also puts much more emphasis on traffic control. The video shows tools for intersections, traffic flows and traffic light systems. Players should be able to optimise heavily used areas more precisely and reduce traffic jams. In some ways, this is reminiscent of traffic management tools from city-building games, but here it is directly part of the game. Waypoints should also become easier to place and manage.

The user interface has been reworked overall. When buying a vehicle, vehicles are displayed larger and more clearly, lines and stations should be reachable faster, and players should have to jump between fewer different menus. This matters because Transport Fever 3 clearly appears to gain more depth. The more connected the systems become, the more important it is that the interface does not collapse into management chaos.

Players who mainly enjoy creative building also get more options. Objects and decorative elements should be easier to place. Weather and the presentation of the world can partly be influenced directly. Small details such as fireworks show that Urban Games does not only want to deepen the economic simulation, but also improve the presentation of self-built worlds.

Mod support is an especially important point. Transport Fever 3 is planned to support free cross-platform mods from release. Through the Curated Mods Program, selected modders are already working on content before launch. This should allow PC and console players to access the same mods as much as possible. In addition, new modding tools are being developed so the community can create more vehicles, buildings, maps and other content after release.

In addition to free play, there will also be a new campaign. It is meant to lead players through more than a century of transport history and partly beyond. New tutorials and a reworked help system should make getting started easier. That will likely be important, because based on the current insights, Transport Fever 3 looks significantly more complex than its predecessor.

At the end of the video, a rocket also causes discussion. Urban Games has confirmed that it is actually included in the game. However, its exact function has not yet been explained. Whether it is part of the campaign, a special monument or a later mechanic remains open for now.

Transport Fever 3 is still planned for release in 2026 for PC, macOS, Linux, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A concrete release date, the price and final PC system requirements were not named in the new First Look video.

Overall, the new First Look mainly shows one thing: Transport Fever 3 does not only want to become bigger, but much more interconnected. Vehicle choice, delivery time, city development, traffic flow, company rank, mods and creative building are tied together more closely. That is exactly why the sequel does not feel like a simple graphical upgrade, but like a serious attempt to push Transport Fever much further as a tycoon and management simulation.
