One day after release: How has the Tatra KT4D for CTS 2026 been received so far?
The Tatra KT4D has been available for City Transport Simulator 2026 since yesterday. Within the first few hours, it became clear that many players had been waiting for precisely this type of tram. Its detailed model, modernised interior, and recognisable Tatra atmosphere are among the most frequently praised elements.
The KT4D is specifically based on vehicles from Frankfurt (Oder), built between 1987 and 1990 and later modernised. This means that some older equipment familiar from Berlin, Leipzig, Cottbus, or other operators is not included. The DLC does not represent every historical KT4D version, but one particular Frankfurt configuration.
The pedal controls have received especially positive reactions. The real vehicle does not use a modern combined controller, but pedals and a classic PCC accelerator system. Many players have also praised the starting sounds, pedal springs, door tones, and warning bell.
Opinions about the complete soundscape are more divided. Some players immediately recognise the vehicle, while others want a more accurate running sound above approximately 30 km/h. Stronger curve squeal and additional contactor sounds have also been requested.
The handling receives similarly mixed responses. Some users adapt quickly to the pedal operation and consider the strong acceleration part of the accelerator technology. Others report that power is difficult to control, especially when using a keyboard. Even small inputs can produce strong acceleration, while releasing the control reduces speed quickly, making it harder to maintain 20 or 30 km/h.
Physical steering-wheel pedals can also be assigned by mapping the driving controller to the corresponding pedal axes. However, the required setting is not immediately obvious to every player.
Double traction is another popular feature. Two cars can be operated together, while their couplings visibly move through curves. This already works for many players and is frequently praised, although both vehicles can currently display the same fleet number.
Several specific problems have also been reported. The most noticeable is a possible crash when door release and central door opening are activated at the same time. The issue appears both in community reports and in initial Steam reviews.
Other reports mention an interior loudspeaker glowing with the interior lights, dark passenger areas on AI-operated trams at night, and questions surrounding the holding or spring-applied brake behaviour.
Some Xbox players continue to report game crashes. It is not yet clear whether these are caused directly by the KT4D or by broader CTS 2026 stability issues.
ViewApp had already announced before release that the shape and construction of the pantograph would receive further adjustments after launch. No date for that update has been provided.
Steam does not yet have enough reviews to produce an official rating. Nine reviews are currently visible, with seven positive and two negative. Positive reviews focus on the model, atmosphere, double traction, and sounds, while negative reviews primarily discuss difficult acceleration control and crashes involving the doors.
After its first day, the overall response to the vehicle itself is mostly positive. Its appearance, interior, nostalgia, and unusual controls appeal to many players. At the same time, several clear bugs remain, while the handling is the most divisive part of the DLC.

The KT4D is also included in the CTS 2026 Season Pass. It normally costs €64.99 and includes all 2026 DLCs, including the Citybus C2, exclusive C2K, KT4D, Vienna expansion, and Flexity Graz. It saves €42.97 compared with individual purchases. Our code reduces the price further to approximately €61.74:
The code SIMULATORENNEWS can also be used across the complete official shop, providing five percent off other missing vehicles and add-ons:
What is your first verdict: Does the Tatra atmosphere already outweigh the remaining issues, or are the acceleration and bugs still too disruptive?
