Many instantly recognized it: Is this legendary terminal really coming to the Vienna map?

Honestly, I find this terminus ultra exciting and ultra stylish. Anyone who has spent a bit of time looking into Viennese trams will probably recognize Grinzing immediately. The architecture alone already makes an incredible difference there. Right in the middle of the former village center in the north of Vienna, this station lies almost hidden between old houses, historic facades, and the typical winegrowers’ houses for which Grinzing is known. It is a place that at first glance almost feels too elegant to be “just” a terminus.

And this is exactly where the truly fascinating part begins. Grinzing is not simply a track by the roadside with a sign and a turning loop. Instead, this terminus has been given its own unique space. The tram passes through a large archway directly into the building complex and then turns behind it. From an urban planning perspective, that is truly exceptional. It almost feels as if the tram is gliding into its own small station building – only right in the middle of the cityscape.

This canopy with its fine wrought-iron supports is exactly what makes the station feel so incredibly elegant to me. Instead of passengers simply standing somewhere on the sidewalk, it almost creates the feeling of a proper tram station in the classical sense. In fact, “stop” is almost the wrong word. It feels much more like a small urban transport hub.

And this history makes the whole thing even more interesting. The building complex dates back to 1914/1915 and is therefore one of Vienna’s early municipal construction projects. The fact that a tram terminus was already integrated so thoughtfully into the cityscape back then is truly remarkable. While many modern endpoints often feel purely functional, Grinzing still has something almost timeless about it to this day.

That is exactly why this station would be an absolute highlight for the upcoming Vienna map in City Transport Simulator 2026. You do not just drive there, turn around, and head back. Instead, it becomes a destination you genuinely look forward to on the line – almost as if every trip ends in a small architectural finale.
