Many people are familiar with the Vienna Flexity from CTS—Flexity Vienna vs. Flexity Graz—but what’s the real difference?

Many are already familiar with the Flexity from Vienna—which is precisely why, with the announced Flexity Graz coming in the fourth quarter, an exciting question arises: What exactly is different in reality? Is it just a different paint job, or is there significantly more to it?

With the announced Flexity Graz, CTS 2026 is getting a new tram at the end of the year. Since many players are already familiar with the Vienna Flexity, it is worth taking a closer look at the differences.

First of all, the most important classification: the Flexity Graz is technically based directly on the Flexity Vienna. This is even officially documented—in 2019, a Vienna Flexity was already used for test runs in Graz.

So the base vehicle is very similar, but not identical.

The first difference is on the outside.

You already pointed this out correctly: the front has been slightly adjusted. While the design comes from the same Flexity family, Graz has its own front layout and a different overall appearance. The vehicle length is also an important point: the Flexity Graz is 33.81 meters long, making it currently the longest tram in Graz.

The differences are more noticeable inside.

Here, the design has in fact been almost completely adapted. The seat arrangement, passenger area, and interior layout differ from the Vienna model. According to official information, the Flexity Graz has 60 seats and 140 standing spaces, meaning a total capacity of 200 passengers.

The driver’s workspace has also been adapted. The cockpit looks different, because Graz uses different operational requirements and systems than Vienna. Displays, control panels, and the overall layout therefore differ accordingly.

On the subject of pedals:

Officially, the cockpit has not yet been fully documented in all details. However, since the previous vehicles in Graz are traditionally driven with pedals and the driver’s desk has been adapted, it is quite reasonable to assume that the Flexity Graz may be implemented in a similar way. At the moment, however, I would still phrase this with some caution until official interior shots or developer images are available.

For CTS, this therefore most likely means: not just a slightly modified Vienna model on the outside, but a visibly adapted vehicle—subtly changed externally, but much more noticeably different inside and at the driver’s position.
