No New Tramau Expansion in 2026: Why CTS Is Now Focusing Entirely on Vienna – and What That Means for the Future!

It is now official: no new map DLC is planned for Tramau in 2026. The developers explained this very openly by saying that the team is currently not large enough to work on two maps at the same time. That is exactly why the full focus is currently on the upcoming Vienna map, which is scheduled to release in the fourth quarter of this year.

And honestly, from a development perspective, this is quite understandable. Vienna is a real milestone for City Transport Simulator 2026. For the first time, the game is leaving the fictional world of Tramau and moving into a real city setting. Naturally, this raises the expectations significantly. According to the developers, more than 1,000 new buildings are being created for this map, and they have even developed a new system that allows routes to be built with realistic elevation profiles and much more detail.

However, one important point should also be emphasized: this does not mean that Tramau is simply being abandoned. The developers clearly stated that they are still listening to community feedback. In particular, requests for intercity routes, suburban lines, and expansions of the existing map are still very much on the table.

So the idea is not cancelled, but rather postponed.

And this is exactly where the typical conflict comes in – the kind of decision where it is almost impossible to satisfy everyone. One side understandably wants a new real-world map with the highest possible quality. The other side has been saying for months that Tramau should finally be expanded further to bring more variety into the game.

Doing both at the same time is often simply not realistic with limited resources.

That is exactly why this decision will likely be received very differently across the community – and maybe that is the most interesting question behind it all: Is it better to do one thing really well instead of doing two things only halfway?

Would you rather have seen Tramau expanded? Is Vienna currently the right priority? How important are intercity routes to you? A new real-world map or an expansion of the existing one?
