Is the bus simulator genre currently booming—or are we just experiencing a brief hype?

When you look at the last few weeks, it really almost feels as if the bus simulator genre is noticeably gaining momentum right now. With The Bus on March 26, CTS 2026 on April 14, and Bus Bound on April 30, three major titles or versions are coming to the market within a very short period of time. This timing density alone is remarkable.

What is especially exciting is the different positioning of each title. The Bus strongly focuses on Berlin, realism, and atmosphere. CTS 2026 is trying to appeal to a broader audience with new features, a Season Pass, and console presence. Bus Bound, on the other hand, brings fresh ideas into the genre with co-op and city development.

This is exactly why it is so interesting from a journalistic perspective: it is no longer just about classic hardcore simulation players. The casual market is visibly growing. Many players are looking for relaxed, accessible simulations that still offer enough depth. Especially on Sony and Microsoft consoles, the genre is becoming increasingly relevant.

The fact that consoles are now playing a bigger role is a decisive market factor. In the past, this genre was almost exclusively at home on PC. Today, new titles are being released directly for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This massively expands the potential target audience.

On top of that comes growing competitive pressure. In the past, OMSI 2 clearly dominated as the main reference point. Today, different philosophies are competing with each other: hardcore realism, modern graphics, co-op, casual features, and console accessibility.

That is exactly why one could absolutely speak of a small boom. Maybe not as a mass market like sports games, but definitely within the simulation scene.
