Subway Sim 2 vs. OMSI 2: Which simulator is actually played more right now—and how big is the gap?

If we first look at OMSI 2, it quickly becomes clear why this game is still mentioned so often even after more than twelve years.

According to current estimates from PlayTracker, the game has around 508,000 estimated owners worldwide. Even more interesting, however, is the activity level: it is currently estimated at around 23,000 active players.

The Steam numbers also show how stable OMSI continues to remain.

According to SteamCharts, the recent 24-hour peak was around 1,438 players, with monthly average values of around 780 players active simultaneously.

For a title released in 2013, that is still remarkably strong.

A huge factor behind this is likely the enormous modding scene. Maps, buses, sounds, repaints, timetables—OMSI 2 still lives extremely strongly from its community and the huge variety of expansions.

On the other side stands SubwaySim 2, which is still significantly younger.

Here, the current figures are naturally lower. Various tracking platforms currently place the title at around 25,000 owners, sometimes even below that. At the same time, the current 24-hour peak is only around 57 active players, which currently makes the gap to OMSI 2 very clear.

And this is exactly where it becomes analytically interesting.

The direct comparison is only fair to a limited extent.

OMSI 2 had over a decade to develop, build a cult community, and remain permanently relevant through DLCs and mods.

SubwaySim 2, on the other hand, is still much earlier in its life cycle. Modern subway simulations in particular need time, route expansions, and a steady stream of content to retain players in the long term.

Still, the current starting position is clear:

OMSI 2 is currently far ahead in terms of players, owners, and activity.

But that does not automatically mean that SubwaySim 2 has no chance.

Quite the opposite.

Especially modern graphics, the Berlin subway atmosphere, and future route updates could still change a lot here.

The exciting question for the future is therefore:
