DECLARED DEAD BUT ALIVE AGAIN – The ICE T (BR 415) is back in service TODAY! You can see it here!

Actually, the story was already over. The short ICE T (Class 415) was considered retired; for many, it was clear: You wouldn’t see it in regular service anymore. And that’s exactly why it’s attracting so much attention right now that this train is suddenly back on German tracks as usual. And today, you can even catch it in the flesh. Where? This evening, the BR 415 is operating on ICE 2545. The journey starts at 21:02 in Frankfurt (Main) Central Station and ends at 23:29 in Saarbrücken. So if you’re traveling along this route or specifically keeping an eye out, this is your chance to spot a train that many had already written off.

What makes this particularly interesting is not just this single trip, but the fact that the train was already in service on multiple rotations yesterday. Among others, it was used between Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Nuremberg—not as a one-time exception, but as part of a regular operational cycle.

The ICE T was running on the following connections:

In the morning, it started as ICE 1697 at 07:03 from Frankfurt (Main) Hbf and reached Stuttgart at 08:49. In the evening, it continued as ICE 1690 from Stuttgart at 20:12 back to Frankfurt, arriving at 21:59. Immediately after that, it went on as ICE 1021 at 22:19 from Frankfurt to Nuremberg, arriving at 00:56.

And even after that, it didn’t stop. Early this morning, it continued directly: as ICE 1022, the train departed at 05:28 from Nuremberg and arrived back in Frankfurt at 07:37.

Maybe you experienced it yourself in the past, traveled on it, or consciously noticed it. Maybe it was simply part of the familiar scene on certain routes for you. And now it’s suddenly back—perhaps only for a limited time.
