Nuremberg – Ingolstadt announced for TSW 6! Amazing high-speed route – or a rather quiet driving experience?
The Nuremberg – Ingolstadt railway is one of Germany’s best-known high-speed lines. Trains here run at speeds of up to 300 km/h, mainly operated by ICE services connecting Nuremberg and Munich.
In a simulator, however, the driving pattern becomes quite predictable.
You start in Nuremberg or Ingolstadt, accelerate after leaving the station and soon enter LZB (continuous cab signalling). After that, AFB controls the train speed automatically while the train runs along the line at high speed.
This is where an interesting discussion begins.
At 300 km/h, much of the scenery passes by extremely quickly. In addition, large parts of the line run through tunnels or next to sound barriers, meaning that the surrounding landscape is sometimes barely visible.
Shortly before reaching the destination station, the train leaves LZB, slows down and stops at the platform. A full run typically takes around 35 to 40 minutes.
That can still be enjoyable, but it creates a different gameplay experience compared to slower regional routes.
On many regional lines, trains run at 60–120 km/h, stop at multiple stations and require constant attention to signals and traffic. This often creates more interaction for the player.
High-speed lines, however, have their own appeal.
The Nuremberg – Ingolstadt line is technically impressive. It features slab track, a special type of railway construction designed specifically for high-speed travel. If this is well recreated in the simulator, it could provide a very smooth and realistic driving experience.
With stable high frame rates and subtle motion blur, players might truly feel like they are gliding along the track at 200–300 km/h.
Another advantage is the route length. Compared to other high-speed lines such as Kassel – Würzburg, this route is somewhat shorter, meaning runs can be completed relatively quickly.
One point that some players have mentioned is that the route currently ends at Ingolstadt. Extending it to Munich could add more variety and make the project feel more complete.
However, Nuremberg is also a strong starting point for future expansions, as many major rail lines branch out from the city.
In the end, the route creates a mixed but intriguing impression.
It has the potential to be technically impressive and visually beautiful – especially considering the high quality of previous TSG projects.
Whether it will remain engaging in the long term will depend largely on how varied the schedules, scenarios and train operations become.
Are you excited for the Nuremberg – Ingolstadt route in TSW 6? Would you have liked to see the route extended to Munich? Which German railway would you like to see in Train Sim World next? Do you prefer driving ICE trains or regional trains? Will you buy the route?
