When is Euro Truck Simulator 2 finally coming to consoles?! We receive this question every day – here is the clear answer!

The current situation is actually quite simple, even though it might disappoint some players. Euro Truck Simulator 2 currently has no official console release date. At the same time, it is just as important to say that there is also no official information suggesting the project has been delayed or cancelled. This means that any supposed release dates, leaks or timeframes circulating online right now are simply speculation. Our advice is therefore very clear: do not treat speculation as facts.

Many players think: “The game already exists on PC, so it should be easy to release it on console.” Unfortunately, it does not work that way. You can imagine it like a car that works perfectly on one road. If you suddenly want that car to drive on a completely different road with new rules, you need to modify a lot of things. That is exactly what happens when bringing a PC game to consoles.

One major aspect is controls. On PC, ETS2 is often played with steering wheels, keyboards, mice and complex menus. On consoles, the game primarily relies on controllers. That means many controls, menus and interactions must be redesigned so they work smoothly and intuitively with a gamepad.

Another major factor is technical optimization. PC is an open platform with widely different hardware setups. Consoles, on the other hand, have fixed hardware. The game must therefore be optimized to run stable and smooth on PlayStation and Xbox, even with huge maps, large traffic systems and complex physics. For a game like ETS2, which has grown for more than a decade and includes massive map expansions, this is a significant technical challenge.

There is also something many players do not realize: platform certification. Games cannot simply be released on consoles. Both Sony and Microsoft require a strict certification process. They test stability, performance, controller functionality, menu structures and technical compliance. If something fails during testing, the game must be fixed and resubmitted. This process can take multiple rounds.

Another important factor is long-term planning. Euro Truck Simulator 2 is no longer a small game. It has become a platform with many expansions, DLCs and a huge community. A console version must therefore be built in a way that supports future updates and content. It is not enough to simply port the game once – it must work reliably for years.

So the most important answer right now is simple: there is still no official release date for ETS2 on consoles. But there is also no official information that the project has been cancelled or delayed. Developing a console version is simply far more complex than many people expect, especially for a game that has evolved for more than a decade.

Until then, there is only one thing left: patience. Or as a real truck driver might say: the road is long – but eventually you reach your destination.

Are you waiting for Euro Truck Simulator 2 on consoles? Would you prefer to play it on PlayStation or Xbox? Do you currently play ETS2 on PC? Do you think the console version would be very successful?
