Seventeen years after release: Are new players still buying Train Simulator?

Train Simulator is one of the longest-running railway simulations on PC. Since its launch in 2009, it has been expanded continuously with a vast catalog of DLC content. According to Gamalytic, around 2 million copies have been sold, with estimates ranging from 1.2 to 2.9 million. Total players stand at approximately 2.4 million, while owners reach about 3.3 million.

The key question concerns current activity. In the past seven days, 422 copies were sold. For a title that is seventeen years old, this is neither explosive growth nor complete stagnation. It indicates steady, ongoing demand.

While Train Simulator now competes with more modern titles such as Train Sim World, it benefits from an extensive content library and a loyal community. Rather than fading away, it appears to function as a long-term niche product with consistent interest.

So what about you: how many buyers would you have estimated for the past week? And do you think Train Simulator is slowly being replaced by Train Sim World, or does it still have its own place in the market?
