If you currently want to drive electric in Euro Truck Simulator 2, you have to take a detour, because electric trucks are only available through the quick job menu. While that may sound like a nice addition at first, it effectively keeps these vehicles out of your regular gameplay loop. You can’t buy them for your fleet or integrate them into your company structure, which likely explains why they receive very little attention from the community. Browsing through player screenshots, it’s actually quite rare to see anyone using an electric truck at all.
Even mods that allow you to drive them outside of quick jobs don’t really solve the core issue. In my view, the problem is that electric driving isn’t implemented as a fully integrated gameplay mechanic but rather as an isolated add-on. What’s missing is the key element: charging infrastructure. Without the ability to recharge your vehicles in normal gameplay, using an electric truck becomes a one-off experience instead of a strategic business decision.
Looking at reality shows how important that difference is. Across Europe, a widespread charging network for commercial vehicles already exists, and creators like Elektrotrucker regularly document how battery-electric trucks operate across the continent. Daily operations already include charging stops, route planning, and energy management.
For ETS2, this would mean integrating charging stations at existing fuel stations as a basic solution, but also adding dedicated charging parks where you could recharge during mandatory rest periods. This could turn electric trucking from a limitation into a logistical challenge. Charging points at your own company garage could also be introduced, ideally as an upgrade option. Since future updates from SCS Software are expected to revise garages, this might be a possible direction – although nothing has been officially confirmed so far.
Overall, electric mobility in ETS2 offers far more gameplay potential than is currently being used. With a proper charging infrastructure in place, electric trucks could introduce meaningful planning decisions into your daily operations.
How would you implement electric trucks in ETS2? What features would need to be added for electric driving to make sense for you? Share your ideas in the comments.
