Has SubwaySim 2 established a stable core player base 10 months after release?
At launch, SubwaySim 2 reached a peak of 1,191 concurrent players. For an urban subway simulation, that is a strong start. Within the niche simulation genre, four-digit concurrent peaks are not guaranteed. It shows that awareness and initial interest were solid. However, launch peaks are snapshots driven by anticipation, reviews, and the “everyone jumps in at once” effect. They do not define long-term stability. Fast forward roughly ten months and the situation looks much calmer: in the mornings, around 40 concurrent players are active; in the evenings, the numbers fluctuate between 80 and 85 players. Compared to launch, that represents a decline of over 90 percent. On paper, that sounds dramatic. In the broader Steam ecosystem, however, it is typical. Most single-player titles lose the majority of their concurrent players within months before stabilizing at a significantly lower level.
Another factor is total ownership. According to Gamalytic, roughly 24,700 players own the game. For a focused simulation title, that is a respectable base. But ownership does not equal daily activity. If about 80 players are online simultaneously in the evening, that represents roughly 0.3 percent of total owners at any given time.
The core question therefore is not “Why aren’t there 1,000 concurrent players anymore?” The real question is: Are the current 40 to 85 players stable? If those numbers remain relatively consistent over months, then yes — SubwaySim 2 has established a core player base. A smaller but persistent group that still plays regularly. SubwaySim 2 is clearly not a mainstream long-term hit. But the data also does not suggest a complete collapse. Instead, it appears to have found its position within the niche simulation market — modest, but present.
How many concurrent players did you guess before seeing the numbers? Are you still actively playing SubwaySim 2? Would you consider yourself part of the core community? How many hours have you logged so far? When was your last session?
