Anyone who previously associated Iceland mainly with endless lava fields might want to take another look. The latest previews suggest that coastal roads will play a key role in the final road network. Steep cliffs, narrow seaside routes and wide open landscapes are expected to add a noticeable amount of variety to everyday driving. In other words: it likely won’t just be about driving straight through grey terrain.

The mix of remote coastal areas and smaller settlements appears to be one of the central elements of this expansion. In classic ETS2 fashion, this will probably mean narrow roads, changing elevation and routes where overtaking might require a second thought.

Visually, it’s also clear that the developers aim to capture Iceland’s unique character as accurately as possible. Coastlines, vegetation and terrain seem more distinct compared to older map DLCs. This continues the trend of not only expanding the map, but also improving environmental variety.
