Today we’re sharing a new screenshot update from our in-development OMSI 2 map “South Lower Saxony”, and this time the focus is on an area where progress has become clearly visible: the Harz. If you’ve ever followed map development, you know the paradox — huge amounts of effort go into things players later experience as “normal.” That’s why we like these update moments: to show what’s actually moving forward behind the scenes.
In this batch, we continue building Line 410 to Sankt Michaelsberg via Grünlage. This isn’t meant to be “just another connection,” but a route segment that feels like a natural transition into a more demanding landscape — not a constant steep-grade showcase, but a corridor where the terrain, road layout, and surroundings start to change in a way you can feel while driving.
A major milestone in the Harz section is the creation of Unter-Herzberg, located below Trifels castle.
We’re also sticking to a core principle we set early for this project: the map is inspired by real-world geography, but we’re not rebuilding real sections 1:1. South Lower Saxony in reality is defined by varied landscapes — from the Solling and the Leine valley area to the western Harz, including zones like the Göttingen–Northeim forest, the Solling foothills, the Einbeck–Markoldendorf basin, the south-western Harz foreland, the Bramwald, and parts of the Lower Eichsfeld and Eichsfeld basin.

One more thing that’s different here: since parts of our own team are developing this map, we can usually answer questions more directly than with external projects. Not every detail can be final yet, but if you ask “what is this section meant to be?” or “why did you build it this way?”, we can typically give a more concrete, grounded response.
When you look at the new pictures, we are particularly interested in one thing: What do you think of the pictures? What do you think of the project itself? Is it interesting to you?
